What is a lithium battery safety guide?

ABS has produced this Guide to provide requirements and reference standards to facilitate effective installation and operation of lithium battery systems. The purpose of this Guide is to establish safety guidelines for owners, operators, shipyards, designers, and manufacturers.

Are energy storage codes & standards needed?

Are lithium batteries covered by the general product safety regulation?

The General Product Safety Regulation covers safety aspects of a product, including lithium batteries, which are not covered by other regulations. Although there are harmonised standards under the regulation, we could not find any that specifically relate to batteries.

Are battery codes interoperable?

However, there are currently battery codes, car VIN codes, and recycling codes. The three-code coding rules are different and cannot be interoperable. Battery coding is the coding of battery packs/modules/cells individually by battery manufacturers in accordance with national coding rules [ 68] when power batteries are produced.

Does a power battery product code need to be retained?

It should be noted that for the cascade utilization products, the original power battery product code needs to be retained. The standard does not specify the information to be included in the traceability information code, nor does it unify the coding rules of this part of the code.
